STYLE INSPIRATION: Alison Mosshart

Alison Mosshart, of The Kills and super-group The Dead Weather, is the American queen of rock chic. Whilst clearly not affected by the Vogue side of fashion, Mosshart's infamous gold Dior Homme boots prove the interest is there. Her grunge-goth look is incredibly inspirational to style conscious rockers the world over.
Mosshart's look is worn-in, understated, untamed and effortless. Black skinny jeans are staple, as are leather jackets and men's tees. Her raven mane hangs unkempt and loose, and accessories include vintage sunglasses, faux fur and printed shawls. Mosshart wears her clothes once, twice, thrice... She states outfits are chosen from whatever lies nearest on her apartment's floor.

Model, singer, actress, Queen of sixties London cool, Hermes icon, French adoptee and Gainsbourg 's muse. I want her basket bag, her fringe, her mini skirts and that see through dress. The Birkin soundtrack? Je T'aime, Moi Non Plus of course.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Emma Watson

Under Her Spell…

Emma Watson...the final Harry Potter premiere...WOW.  Her Oscar De La Renta gown can simply be described (fittingly) as magic.

So, after seeing the gorgeous pictures from last night’s premiere I thought I would dedicate a post to Emma Watson...and all her loveliness.

Here are Novateur’s favourite EM looks….Watson has blossomed from the messy haired Hermione into a graceful young woman. This ever-elegant fashion princess has really come into her own. She graces the top fashion bibles, most recently American Vogue, and has the design elite falling at her sparkly heeled feet. Her grown up style is reminiscent of Hollywood’s golden era when the stars were private and only ever appeared poised and groomed in magazines or on the red carpet (you’ll never find this one falling out of a car in Topshop bodycon). However, whilst always the lady, Watson still gives her look that youthful edge; the slightly shortened hem or the glimpse of peach flesh under a nude gown.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Isabel Lucas

Oh Isabel

She is from Australia, she is a successful actress, she is a vegetarian and she has dated Adrian Grenier. However, more importantly here at Novateur, Isabel Lucas has the most incredible natural bohemian style the world has seen since we went Sienna mad circa 2004/2005. Bohemian, hippy, laid back…call it what you may…this girl can do no wrong. The success of her style (and the secret to carrying off boho) is to not care too much. Isabel wears minimal make-up, lets her hair hang loose and goes easy on the accessories. 

This summer I will be looking nowhere else for inspiration. They say she throws on her clothes and steps out the door…and do you know what…I believe them. Isabel we salute you.

STYLE INSPIRATION: Marina Diamandis

Actually, my name’s MARINA 

When Marina Lambrini (really) Diamandis was asked to describe her style in three words she choose 'vintage, cheerleader and cartoon'.  Novateur hearts both her style and music in equal measures so it is only right she is our next Style Icon.

I first noticed Marina when she popped up on MTV writhing in sequins, stars and stripes and singing about teens, queens and all things Hollywood: off went my Americana alarm. The added bonus with this (it turned out Welsh-Greek) beauty was that aside from the visual treat the video offered, it was actually a great song. Think glitter pop-rock meets new wave disco, a little Debbie Harry, a twist of Madonna and there you have  it. However, Marina is no carbon copy. What sets her apart from the crowd is the main Diamandis trait which is at the core of the music; her wonderful operatic voice. Her tendency to be anti-celebrity is also more than appealing as well as the fact she actually really really does care about her fans. ‘The Diamonds’ of her stage name does, after all, refer to her loyal and ever growing following and she has even been known to have a fan photo as her Facebook fan page profile picture.

After the release of the album delightfully entitled, The Family Jewels, success followed and so did a string of bubblegum tour get-ups with Marina all neon lips and Liz Taylor brows standing in the spotlight, her thick black mane playing in the wind machine. The album (and outfits) have given Marina world-wide fame.

I was lucky enough to catch her last summer at the super sunny Reading Festival along with a legion of other ‘Diamonds’ all faithfully packed into a tent to catch a glimpse and to, well, have a dance. She did not disappoint.

Marina is currently finishing her new album and sporting a choppy bob and I, for one, cannot wait to see what is next. So, to remind you of past galore, here are Novateur's favourite MD looks; think Mickey Mouse meets Wednesday Addams...in a neon paint fight.
